Service Day 2025: Building Accessibility and Giving Back

At Saf-Gard^®, we’re all about keeping hardworking folks safe on the job. But safety doesn’t stop when the workday ends. That’s why we make it our business to step up for the neighborhoods that have supported us for decades. When we teamed up with Community Housing Solutions (CHS), it wasn’t just about writing a check—it was about rolling up our sleeves and making a real difference.

Who is CHS?

Community Housing Solutions (CHS) is a nonprofit headquartered in Guilford County, North Carolina. Their mission? Keep folks in their homes by making them warmer, drier, and safer. They tackle the tough stuff—fixing roofs, plumbing, floors, electrical work—for our neighbors who could use a helping hand, they also improve home accessibility for those requiring mobility modifications.

 

Since they started, CHS has repaired over 1,800 homes, making life better for families who need a break. They don’t just fix homes—they restore peace of mind. That’s the kind of work we can get behind. Check them out at chshousing.org.

Service Days: Getting Our Hands Dirty

We’re not the type to just write a check and call it a day. We believe in showing up and doing the work. So, for two days straight, our team put the safety toes to the pavement and got to building. We helped construct a deck and an accessibility ramp for a community member who needed a safer way in and out of their home. No fluff, no shortcuts—just solid, honest work.

 

By the time we finished, we weren’t just looking at a sturdy new ramp; we were looking at a home that was safer and more accessible, and a thankful resident who was gracious. And yeah, we were sore, sweaty, and covered in sawdust—but we’d do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Customers Who Care

Our customers aren’t just buying safety shoes—they’re part of something bigger. When we pledged to donate a percentage of online shoe sales from SafGard.com and SRMax.com on April 9th to CHS, they showed up in a big way. Because of that support, we cut a check for $32,101.39 to CHS.

Why This Matters

At Saf-Gard^®, we protect people on the job. But when the shift ends, life keeps going. If someone’s home isn’t safe, nothing else really matters. It’s that simple. We believe companies like ours have a responsibility to do more than sell products—we should be showing up, pitching in, and putting in the work where it counts.
